Welcome to the Thienemann Archive - Willkommen im Thienemann Archiv
Welcome to the Thienemann Archive. The family dates back to circa 1526. Research on the family has been conducted for over 200 years with two genealogies published. The current work to gather information began in the late 1960s and has included the computerization of the research and now the family's own archive web site. This website includes extensive data on the surnames Fairchild, McMichael, Bass, Palmer and Rutledge. The genealogy of the Thienemann family is the history of the descendants of our earliest known ancestor, Nickol Duhnemann. The majority of Thienemanns listed in this genealogy can be traced directly back to Nickol Duhnemann. However, there are five separate Thienemann lines that we have not yet been able to connect back to Nickol Duhnemann. In this archive they are referred to as the Kentucky Thienemans, the Lilienthal Thienemanns, the Oldenburg Thienemanns, the Schleibnitz Thienemanns and the Swedish Thienemanns.
The surname Thienemann is a derivation from the original surname Duhnemann. The name Duhnemann evolved into Dienemann and then Thienemann. The name Thienemann is spelled Thieneman (second final "n" removed) in certain parts of the United States. Information on surnames Duhnemann and Dienemann is included in this genealogy.
