| Notes |
- Charles Adrian Dorsey Thienemann was discharged from the Orleans Guard Battalion in Aug 1862 [p. 232 2nd company]:
CHARLES ADRIAN DORSEY THIENEMANN, Private 2nd Company Battalion, Washington Artillery, Louisiana. Enlisted 10 Dec 1861 in Centerville [LA] as a substitute for J. H. Derange. Was on the roll for Jan & Feb 1862. Was absent on special service at Manassas [VA]. Was present for the Mar & Apr 1862 roll. Was absent for the May & Jun 1862 roll. Was sick since 15 Mar 1862. Was on the roll for Jul & Aug 1862 roll. Discharged 1 Aug 1862 by the order of General Robert E. Lee. Born in Louisiana, occupation clerk. Residence New Orleans. Age 27 when enlisted, single.
C. A. D. Thienemann was a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church at the time of his death in 1923. He was originally buried in Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 [corner Washington & Prytania] but his remains had to be moved when the exterior wall of the cemetery began to collapse. His remains moved on 28 Jan 1959 to Greenwood Cemetery [New Orleans] and placed in the Shelley tomb.
C. A. D. Thienemann and his wife Eveline Thieneman née Cocke lived in the 500 block of Octavia St. between Laurel and Constance. His son Charlie Thieneman and wife Maggie Thieneman née Durnin also lived there at one time.
According to his grandson, Robert Lee "Bob" Thieneman Jr., C. A. D. Thienemann's people were from Boutee on "Magnolia Ridge" located west off of Highway 90 West. [In all probability, the reference was to C. A. D. Thienemann's wife's people the Cockes and Leforts that were from Boutee].
Also according to Bob Thieneman, many Thienemanns were buried in Red Church, up river from New Orleans on the River Road. The bodies were brought across the Mississippi River from Boutee for burial. [Again, it was probably members of the Cocke and Lefort families that were brought from Boutee to be buried at Red Church]. After his death, C. A. D. Thienemann's belongings were given to the Jackson Barracks in New Orleans, the home of the Washington Artillery to which he belonged in the U.S. Civil War. During the war he served as a confidential messenger to President Jefferson Davis. Following his service in the war, C. A. D. Thienemann was employed as an accountant/bookkeeper employed with the firm of McCandish, Christian & Co. as of 1873. The 1868 New Orleans City Directory listed him as an accountant at Parhant Blunt, 75 Carondelet, 3rd floor with his residence at 162 Frenchman. The city directory in 1879 listed his occupation as "Custodian of notarial records" with his residence at 166 Laurel, between Berlin and Napoleon avenues. Charles was listed as a bookkeeper with the firm Hirsch & Feibleman in the 1883-1887 New Orleans City Directories [1888 with E. Feibleman & Son]. In 1889 he was a clerk with the S. Gumbel & Co.
